Acne

  • Acne is a very common skin condition that affects 95% of teenagers and adults to some extent over the course of their lifetime. Acne is commonly triggered by hormonal changes.

In response, the sebaceous gland (found in the hair follicle) produces too much oil, or ‘sebum’, which captures dead skin, debris and, in turn, clogs up the follicles. Bacteria builds up in the sebaceous (oil-producing) gland which travels up the hair follicle and out to the skin’s surface, this results in blackheads, whiteheads, red or pus-filled spots, and inflamed skin.

Acne is easily recognised by the appearance of the spots on the face, neck, chest, or back.

  • If you’re prone to folliculitis, Laser Hair Removal is a great solution. Every time you have a laser hair removal treatment, a beam of light is aimed at the hair.

The light is absorbed by your skin, and that helps to shut the follicle down, which, in turn, helps to eliminate the possibility of folliculitis.

Shaving and waxing will no longer be an issue for you, and you won’t have to deal with the constant red, itching skin that so often accompanies folliculitis ever again.

  • Light emitted directly targets the overactive sebaceous glands, greatly reducing the total number and severity of active lesions. This lessens inflammation and the frequency of breakouts.

The light stimulates the production of new collagen to improve skin texture, and scarring and can also reduce the appearance of red or brown areas of skin that are often associated with acne breakouts.

  • A typical treatment session is approximately 30 minutes.

  • Treatment is mildly uncomfortable but there is no need for anaesthesia and the procedure is actually quite quick. Sensations vary but most describe this treatment as feeling like a very quick, hot pinprick.

Immediately after treatment the skin may appear red and a warm tingling sensation may be felt. Typically the skin is cooled to ease any discomfort and a calming gel is applied.

  • The number of sessions required varies from client to client dependant on many factors however, as a guideline, it is always recommended to complete a course of at least six sessions per treatment area.

Best results are seen following a minimum course of treatments.

6-8 sessions are recommened for optimum results.

  • Almost everyone can be treated, apart from tanned individuals. If you are pregnant or taking Roaccutane (an acne medication) it is best not to undergo laser treatment until you have been off the medication for a minimum of 6 months.

Typically the treatments are best for someone with mild to moderate acne (i.e could have a range of blackheads, spots and oiliness) as the spots become more cystic and boil-sized we are more limited and find that in this situation it is best to see a dermatologist.

Skin tightening

  • Pulses of light are emitted to target skin discolouration (brown and red lesions) and create a more youthful, even complexion.

In addition, the laser stimulates the fibroblast cells, leading to increased production of new collagen and elastin.

  • Laser improves the texture of the skin, evening out lumps and bumps whilst reducing the appearance of lines and wrinkles. The skin will also become tighter and the appearance of scarring can be reduced.

  • Treatment can be mildly uncomfortable, but no anaesthesia is required. Most people describe the discomfort as moderate and acceptable, not unlike a quick pinprick. You will also experience a warm sensation.

  • Treatments are carried out every 2 to 4 weeks and typically between 3 and 6 treatments are recommended for best results. Thereafter, top-up sessions are performed as required, usually once or twice a year.

  • Clinical studies show that clients have seen outstanding results in as little as three sessions.

With proper skincare, including regular SPF, the results may last up to three years.

  • Most people are suitable for treatment. We recommend a consultation with your clinician to ascertain if the treatment will be successful for you.

TREATMENT INFORMATION FOR SKIN REJUVENTATION

    • Do not use perfume products, makeup, deodorant, creams, oils on the relevant area 24 hours before each treatment.

    • Do not wax, bleach, pluck, or have electrolysis for at least 4 weeks prior to treatment. Shaving the area is okay!

    • Avoid exfoliation treatments or products containing retinol or strong AHA fruit acids 1 week prior to treatment.

    • Avoid wearing tight clothing when attending treatment

    • Avoid sun exposure for 4 weeks prior to treatment.

    • No false tan for at least 2 weeks before treatments

    • Use a minimum of spf 30 on exposed areas as laser cannot be applied on an active tan. But do not use sunscreen 24 hours prior to treatments.

    • Drinking coffee an hour or two before treatment may cause a heightened sensation whilst treating.

    • Treatment can be mildly uncomfortable but no anesthesia is required and most people describe the discomfort as moderate and acceptable and like a warm pin prick sensation.

    • Treatment times can vary but typically between 20-45 minutes

    • A treatment procedure will be tailored specifically to you. The process will include a light applicator that is placed onto the skin and a short pulse of light is released. The handpiece is then moved to the neighbouring area and the process is repeated until the entire area is treated. During treatment protective eye wear will be provided.

    • Precisely controlled short pulses of light are released that target discolouration (brown and red lesions) to create a more youthful, even complexion. In addition, this light results in the stimulation of the fibroblast cells, leading to increased production of new collagen and elastin. This improves the texture of the skin, evening out lumps and bumps whilst reducing the appearance of lines and wrinkles. If an Nd:YAG laser is used the skin will also become firmer, tighter and the appearance of scarring can be reduced.

    • The treated area may feel warm and sensitive for the first few days post-treatment.

    • Avoid sun exposure for a minimum of 7 days to reduce the risk of side effects and adverse events. - If sun avoidance is impossible apply a SPF 30+ every 2 hr

    • Make-up and products can be applied immediately after the treatment.

    • You may resume most activities immediately after treatment.

    • Avoid touching the area

    • If a slight reaction occurs, please apply Aloe Vera gel or antiseptic cream.

    • Apply a cold compress to the area to soothe

    • Please avoid hot baths/showers/steam baths/saunas/exfoliating treatments 1 week after treatments.

    • No exercise for 24 hours

    • Avoid swimming in strong chlorinated water for a few days

    • The skin may be quite red and slightly swollen after treatment but this usually subsides quickly. Very rarely a small blister may form and there can be temporary lightening or darkening of the skin. However, most people experience no side effects and any skin reaction usually disappears within a few hours.

    • Redness and a slight warming sensation are normal after treatment. A cooling pack is applied after treatment to calm the skin. You may see darkening of pigmented spots before they flake off, leading to a more even skin tone. Tightening of the skin should increase over the following months as new collagen is produced within the dermis.

    • Treatments are carried out every 2 to 3 weeks and 6 treatments are recommended for best results. Thereafter, top-up sessions are performed as required, but typically once or twice a year.
